    Brown discharge for 3 weeks
Hi, I am 26 yrs old with 2 children, my first was born vaginally and the second born c-section, this past month of July I thought I might have been pregnant and I am on Yasmin because but a week before my period was supposed to start I started lightly discharging brown blood this lasted for the whole week (I also was able to excreet what looked like milk from my breasts but that stopped the week after when I was supposed to be on my period) also the next week which was the week I was supposed to be on my period I had nothing but light brown discharge. Well my husband and I decided this month of August we would try to have a 3rd child but now the brown discharge has returned!! What is this I never had a red blood period only very dark brown discharge I do not have to wear a pad except for now during the 3rd week because the discharge is a little heavier and it is such a dark color. I just want to know what is going on! Any advice is better than nothing.

The brown color you are describing is old blood. Old blood is brown. It sounds to me like you are simply having an irregular period. There are a number of factors that can cause an irregular period, such as stress, diet and some medications. If this issue does not correct itself, I would suggest going to your doctor to find out some options on what you can do the make your period regular again.

As for the substance being expressed from your nipples, I suggest that you also go to the doctor for this. This needs to be checked out as you have indicated that you are not pregnant/do not think you are.

Is there any possible chance that you might think you are pregnant?

Yes, there is a possibility of pregnancy but I have not taken any sort of pregnancy test to confirm if I am or not. Thank you for your response any kind of advice is greatly appreciated! I am no longer expressing anything from my nipples but I will definitely make an appt. with my obgyn. Do you have any idea why old blood would still be in my uterus and why it is taking so long to clean itself out?

Everyone experiences this old blood. It is nothing to worry about. By the time your body cleanses itself of the old blood, more will begin to come out. Our bodies only (normally) clean themselves out every 28 days, so in between periods the blood gets old and turns this brown color.

Have you missed an actual period yet? If so, wait about 2 weeks after the missed period and take an HPT, using your first morning urine. Or, another option, you can go to your doctor and request a blood test. :)

I believe I missed a period because the 2nd week of the brown discharge was when I was supposed to be on my period and there was never any red blood only the brown discharge and that was only seen when I would wipe after using the restroom. So I guess that would make me now a week late considering my last day of my period was last Sunday, does that sound right?

It sounds to me like you are experiencing irregularity. All women go through this at one time or another.

But, the only way to be sure, and rule out pregnancy, is to take a test. When you feel you have had a delayed period for two weeks, take an HPT. Or get that blood test from your doctor.

If it turns out negative and you are not pregnant, discuss with your doctor the reasons you might be experiencing this irregularity.
