I am a us citizen planning to marry a citizen of nepal in the usa... he is here for college so he is a legal alien... I am wondering, if we marry in the usa, will he attain united states citizenship as a result of our marriage??

In a word, yes.

Yes, but not automatically, you have to file papers for him to get a green card (and then citizenship later on). There will be a review to make sure this isn't a marriage of conveninece (where you are only marrying to get him citizenship) and there are fees to pay, about $2000 USD. But in general this is an easy process and yes he will get citizenship.

It's a lot easier than some countries. You had no reason to disagree, the information I gave was factual and correct, I explained there are papers to file and an official review.

Also INS no longer exists, the government agency that deals with immigration is now USCIS. And to apply for citizenship you have to apply for a green card through marriage first. He's on a student visa which is not the same as a green card.

I disagreed because I personally don't find the process easy. But as I said: It depends on what you consider "easy".

No I married a man from The Netherlands and once you two are married you will have to file a lot of paper work its better when he is in the states you will need to file the I130 and 286 I think I got my husband and I a lawyer here to help file the paper work the paper work is going to cost about 280 to about 400 I think for the 1st two papers... Good luck with you two :)

As noted there is nothing automatic, we have two good friends who each marrried someone from another nation. In each case it still took several years a several thousand dollars to get citizenship.

Were they able to come to the states to live and work while they wanted?

Yes, both came to the US, actually one is still waiting citizenship as for as I know.

Can I ask if it took a hard time on there marriage I know my husband I have been married now for two and half years and been apart for 10 months I was living in holland to be with him and was sent back due to the fact they changed the laws and didn't tell us while we were waiting on my paper work and he flys back and forth every 3 to 4 months for a week at a time.. but I know for me its hard and I get so up set and he don't know how to handle it all. DId your friends face these things how did they over come it?
