    Losing weight
Hey fellow cheerleaders!! I'm a cheerleader at my school now and I plan on continuing when I go to college. The problem is, I have a weight issue. I know that I shouldn't completely stress out about it but the college that I plan on going to is very competitive. In my opinion, nobody has really ever heard of a fat COLLEGE cheerleader and if there are any, it's very rare. I plan on going to the University of Central Florida (who beat the University of Kentucky this year!! ) and I have 2 years to get myself together. Does anyone have any kind of cheerleading diets (I know, weird right?) that I can do to prepare myself for the collegiate level of cheerleading?? :) :)

Do you have a weight issue or a real weight problem? How much do you (realistically) need to lose? You can't be that "fat" or you wouldn't have made it past the tryouts.

I don't know about that. We had a couple of big girls on our cheer team. Not the girls that really are skinny but think they're fat, I'm talking like bulging out of their uniform. It was nasty.

No that wasn't pointed towards you at all. It is rare that something like that happens like it did at my high school.

You might actually be a healthy weight. Check out this BMI chart.

    http://walmart.triaddigital.com/Asse..._BMI_chart.gif

Find your height and weight and it will tell you your BMI. It is color coded to tell you if you are underweight, healthy, overweight, etc.

If you are of a healthy weight there really isn't any need to lose. I know how it is to be a girl, we always think we don't look good, when we actually do! :)

If you feel you need to lose weight, here is a list of diets provided by WebMD.

    Evaluate the Latest Diets

Just remember that everyone's body is different, and everyone responds to diets differently. Not all diets work for everyone. You may have to try them all until you find one that is right and works for you. :)

I was a varsity cheerleader in high school and I cheered in college a bit too. First of all, you need to get a physical from your doctor so that he/she can okay your current weight and give you a limit. Eat a lean, healthy diet, drink a lot of water, and go for a walk everyday(10,000 steps a day). Make the best of cheer practices; I know that they can be very tough and physically exhausting so use this to your advantage. Along with this, you could do yoga or pilates on the weekends in order to give your muscles a break. Good luck.

I'm a cheerleader for West Virginia University. We don't compete though. We made the decision not to because we would have to decide between cheering for football/ basketball or competing and here at WVU, football/basketball is almost a religion lol. But anyway... Don't stress out too much about your weight. Eat healthy, drink a lot of water, and exercise. You need to burn more callories than you are eating to lose weight. If I were you, I would eat healthy and go to a gymnastics center every other day. Its really hot in gyms so you'll sweat. Have a skilled person there work you hard.. It definitely won't be fun by any means, but at least it is a healthy way to do it. Just remember to keep hydrated.
ALSO... A lot of people do not realize that it is easier to put up a girl that may weigh more that is tight when flying. Always stay tight and life up through your shoulders and chest. Its easier to put a girl up that weighs more and is tight than it is to put up a 100 lb girl who is loose in the air. Good Luck! I hope it goes really good for you. If you don't make it, don't give up and try again next year.. You won't regret it, trust me, I know.
