    PVC waste piping
    Hi,

I an a first-time home buyer, and have heard things about the waste piping from home to the septic. I was told that older houses have this piping done with cast iron pipe segments, and the newer ones have this done with PVC piping. My question is: In which year (or thereabout) did the builders start using PVC for waste pipes?

    Thanks

It all depends on the area. We started using ABS in the 60's and switched to PVC in the 70's in our new single family dwellings. We continue to use cast iron soil pipe in our condos and commercial buildings up past the time I retired
    Regards, Tom.
