    Vista Email settings
I have had to re-install Vista due to motherboard failiure ( Vista would not recover or repair, another topic! ) Before I re-installed I took a backup image of the hard drive.

How can I recover my emails from the image (where are they?) and get them back in the new Microsoft Mail?

    Regards
    Steve

Install Alcohol 100% or Nero if the image you made is .nrg.

Insert the DVD or CD, where the image is stored
    Run Disc

    - Click the START button

    - Type "Mail" in the Instant Search area
    - Select "Windows Mail" from the list
    - Click FILE
    - Click IMPORT
    - Select the appropriate item for e.g Windows Contacts
    - You will be prompted to tell Windows which format you are importing e.g Select Windows Address Book File (Outlook Contacts)
    - Click IMPORT
    - Browse to the location of the file you wish you import.
    - Follow any step-by-step instructions given to you from there
    - Repeat the steps for your mail and other data
    - Your data should be in Windows Mail

Thanks Ben, I have the image open in Trueimage as drive M:, I follow what you say until I have to browse to the location of the messages. What extension do I look for and where are they? I have searched every where I can think of.

    Thanks

The purpose of an image is to use it to recover the old install in full. Just restore the image.

According to Microsoft the default location for these are

    C:\Documents and Settings\<user'sname>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

The personal folders are saved in Outlook.pst
The personal address book is saved in Outlook.pab

I cannot restore the image as Vista will not boot due to the hardware changes, that's why I need to recover the messages.

I do not have Outlook, I am just using Microsoft mail from a default Vista install, there are no pst or pab files anywhere.
The location you show has a windows mail folder but there are no files that look like the old dbx that outlook express used.

What did you use to create the image? Usually you create a boot disk that will restore the image.
