Hello,
I have a shower tub combo that is tiled. I would like to strip it down and put new walls and tile. Do I have to put green board along with cement board in this area or can I just use cement board and tile on it? I also want to know it I can prop the tub to lean back a little. Currently the angle the tub is at now, the water runs to the floor during showers. On one side of the tub, I have a small puddle on the floor evertime we shower. What can I use for this situation?

I'm a dys'er, so I don't remodel or build for a living, but here's my understanding. If I'm wrong I know the pros that frequent this site will correct the error.

Cement board alone is fine in the shower area, then you can use green on the other walls in the bath or cbu here as well. You can put cbu over green if you want to but I'm not sure why you'd do this... somebody with more exp probably has a better opinion on this. If you use cbu I think you are supposed to put paper between the cbu and studs, or the green and the cbu if you put up both.

Either way I'd use cbu and not greenboard alone in the shower area... I know you can use green in the shower area but why not use the more h20 resist cbu? Especially if you're paying good $$ for tile... put up the better stuff.

As for the puddle, do you just have a shower curtain off a rod or a shower door set? I can tell you our public bath uses a shower curtain and a liner curtain (dunno what else to call it... goes on the inside of the tub, the other is at the outside)... doesn't matter. If you take a hot, steaming shower water condenses off the shower curtain and goes to floor.

Are you saying the tub is not level?

The only thing I think could fix ours is a better bath fan (the one in there is JUNK) or a shower door set. I'm guessing we'll do both when I remodel this next year.

Again, the guys who know better will have opinions on the puddle issue.

Cement brd around shower/tub area is all you need. Use green drywall in rest of bathroom.
As far as tub, you should remove it and level the back and sides plumb with 2x4 attached to wall. Height depends on your tub.
I'm also renovating my bathroom. I am using cement brd,moisture resistant drywall, new tub and tiles.
