I naturally have black hair and just highlighted them by a pro about 3 weeks ago. With the original intention of them being a chestnut brown, they came out too light (a platinum blonde). I wanted to re-dye them to the color that I had wanted... is this a wise decision?

If you try to dye them individually, it won't really work (or it will look bad). What you probably have to do is dye your entire head.

I had this problem about a week ago. I went back to the salon and they didn't tone my highlights down individually - they colored my whole head.

Since your hair is black, you probably wouldn't feel too bad about having darker hair. I think that if you put a chestnut brown over blonde, it will just turn it a horrible red...

Do not attempt to fix it yourself, it could make matters worse. Go back to the salon and have the stylist re-do your highlights.

I have the same issue with you. I get medium blonde highlights thrice a year and my original hair color is black. I moved to another state and had my highlights done by a new person. Anyway, after 3 weeks my hair turned platinum blonde and this has never happened to me before. I don't want to go back to the same salon because I know that they will charge me another arm and a leg just for toning down my highlights. Try going back to your salon if possible, my previous colorist will do it for free because I've been going there for a long time. But since I am still looking for a colorist, I bought Beautiful Collection gentle semi permanent color B11W Honey brown by Clairol Professional from a Beauty Supply store and deep conditioned my hair afterwards. It worked really well for me for now while I find a good hair colorist or plan to fly back to my previous colorist. The hair color bottle was only $3.99. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
