Adopting my son if the father isn't around
Hi everyone. I am new to this, so please bare with me.

My son is 3 years old. His father does nothing for him. No time for him, no child support, nothing. I am in a new relationship, getting ready to marry and my fiancé wants to adopt my son once we are married.

Can he do this with out involving Zairre's dad? His dad is not listed on the birth certificate.

Marry. Then YOU proceed with adoption.

You'd have to attempt to get the father's consent. If it's established that his whereabouts are unknown, then the adoption can proceed without him.

You would have to attempt to locate the bio father. If you know the fathers whereabouts you can send him the consent form. If you do not know where he is the court usually specifics what papers, and how long you need to post an announcement trying to locate him. Keep in mind, he willingly has to sign away his parental rights in order for the child to be adopted by someone else. In Ohio, you have to be married a year before the courts will allow it.
