My dryer is still turning but stopped heating. It is a stackable unit. The washer still works fine. Sears told me that it was either the thermostat or heating element. I cleaned the back of the dryer out completely and inside the door it looked like it had been burnt. Before it stopped heating I did smell burning. What can I do

You can open unit back up and with unit unplugged, remove a wire from the element and thermostat for contiluity. If you have none, replace. Also while you have unit aout from wall verify the vent hose is open and clean. Then go to where it exits house and verify it is also open. Good Luck

It was likely the heating element that went bad and there isn't much short of replacing it. The task is not too difficult if you are handy with tools, are you? I would confirm the element is bad before replacing it. Unplug the dryer and disconnect the wires to the element. Test with a continuity tester. If you know how to use a test meter you could try that with the dryer turned on and powered but this can be dangerous.

Do you get any heat? If you do and it just takes a real long time to dry I would check your dryer vent from the house. It could be clogged. If you don't have any heat at all I would check the thermofuse. Is this a gas or electric dryer? These checks are easy. Please email me and I will walk you through them. [email protected]

These driers will do that when the lint builds up like concrete on the inside of the air ducts. You need to totally tear it down and scrape out and wash all of the parts except the motor, which you vacuum out. You can go to YouTube to see videos on how to take it apart, but do a very good job or it will fail again quickly. You will need to replace the blown thermal fuse which is near the elements. Check the different safeties to find the one that is bad; they are wired in series. I would get a new belt and change it while you have it apart and get some white lithium grease and grease any bearings you find. You need to clean out a drier every two years, at least, according to the manual. Good Luck. DrTom4444
