    Acid Reflux.
Ok so I am new to this site but I have a few questions... Ok so it just about health in general because I was just diagnosed with acid reflux and my chest is very uncomfortable. It burns or is tight and I also feel like I have to blow my nose every five minutes. It is constantly running. I have had this problem for over a month now. The doctor put me on a perscription medicine for the reflux which has helped but has not cured the chest pain... also feel like I can't gain weight? I stopped going to the gym when I started to have these problems because I have not felt like myself so shouldn't I be gaining weight? Maybe I am overreacting but do any of these symptoms have any connection? How can I get rid of them? How long does it take to gain weight? Can stress make you lose weight? Can acid reflux? I am 5'2 and I weigh 120. I want to gain 5 pounds because I feel like I have lost. Is it because I stopped going to the gym? I don't know... just weird... any advice?

My advice is to take your medication as prescribed. I also was diagnosed with severe acid reflux.

There are many things you can do to reduce the discomfort. There are many things that can be done to help with the problem. Trying to gain wieght by eating could aggravate the symptoms.

Here is a website that you could check out and see if you need to do any of these things to help reduce the symptoms even more.

Heartburn, Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER), and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

Thank you for the advice... I had an upper GI done about a week ago. I think I am going to go and see a gastreologist doctor next week. I just hope it is not something more serious because I'm not seeing much relief. I do have a lot of the symptoms that I read in the website you referred. Hopefully I can get this taken care of.

My husband has had acid reflux, being treated since 1999 suffered long before. If you are bothered at night elevate the head of your bed. Do not go to sleep on a full stomach. I would not eat at least 4 hours prior to bed time. Breakfast is very important, as is water through the day. Spices, tomatoes and acidic fruit , caffiene and nicotine is terrible for reflux. My hubsand helps keeps his under control by eating the proper foods and sometimes that does not even help Btw he is only 44. It is also hereditary his brothers and my children have it as well. Remember you must still eat, your stomach acids need something to digest. But eat healthy foods.

Another thing I would like to add is that I went through trying 2 or 3 different medications before I got the one that worked best. You also need to know that most medicines take at least a good 4 to 6 weeks to start the healing process from this condition. Another thing too is that my reflux was so severe that I could not keep down anything. The back of my throat was burnt. Losing my voice and coughing up black phlem. I know it sounds gross, but that is some of the things that happened. It does take time to heal. The very very last resort is surgery but usually they treat it with lifestyle changes and medication.

Avoid oranges and orange juice like the plague.

Hi I have similar problems. I've just started getting really bad pain in my chest with it. I vomit a lot and there is discomort when I eat. I can eat some foods that I shouldn't like chocolate. I'm still sick but the pain is more constant now. My oesophagus hurt but that has eased. I have tried Lansoprozole and omeprazole but this pain gets me down. What are the side effects people are getting from Omeprazole? I have been on it a few weeks now. Pray for me as I am not well at all and have just been in hospital,it didn't do anything for me. Lets pray together for healing. I believe in Jesus.
