We just completed are lease at an apartment. We moved to a house and have been paying our rent at the apartment for the past two months so to not break our lease. When my husband showed up for the final walk through and to turn in our keys they had already entered the apartment. There was paint all over the carpeting and other places. Are they allowed to do this? What integrity does the final walk through offer if they enter the property and do whatever they want prior to it?

As long as they don't try and make you pay for the paint and carpeting, don't worry about it. I hope you took pics when you moved out, though.

We did not take pictures because we still had our keys. We were not officially out of the apartment until today. Unfortunatelly the maintenance wanted to get a jump on preparing the property. As far as I am concerned the walk through means nothing. I better get my entire deposit back.
