    Served divorce papers
After acquiring his U.S.Citizenship my husband is divorcing me. What happens if I don't respond to being served divorce papers ? There is no community property to be divided as he insisted on everything being kept separate. I have separate property including my home of 25 yrs. Which is held in another name as a widow, sole and separate property. He never paid a mortgage payment. His papers state that " there are no such assets and debts subject to disposition by the court". So can I just ignore the served papers and let him get the divorce by default? Which is OK with me.

You should seek the advice of an attoreny, so that your rights are protected.

Why would you do that? It sounds to me like this was a marriage of convenience to get citizenship. He doesn't seem to want anything from you but a signature. So why wouldn't you give it to him? I would take the divorce papers to your attorney, have him look them over and if there are no hidden gotchas, sign them and send them back.

I agree, he married me for a green card, permanent residency and citizenship but I have no proof except that he was a verbally abusive raging maniac. We were married 4 yrs.9 months.
