Tempstar high efficiency 5000 not cooling
I have about a 1998 tempstar and the air conditioner just quiet. The furnace still circulates the air but it is not cool. The top discharge fan on the unit is not running it still spins if you spin it by hand. There is a electrical hum coming from some where in side the unit can't pin point where it is any suggestions anyone.

Try to determine the hum by removing the fuses in the disconnect or turning off the breaker, if it still hums then it is the contactor making the hum , this means that you may have tripped the breaker or blown the fuses in the disconnect. If the hum stops then it could be the compressor making the hum, in this case I would check the fan motor for problems there , also check the fan motor run capacitor.

I have the same srt of issue with my Tempstar 5000. I have narrowed down the sound of the humming to either the capacitor or, the coil pack.
Would one of these cause the fan to stop turning if they were defective?
