This is what's on playstation.com, sounds like it's hit and miss, don't toss your ps2 if your buying a ps3 is my suggestion.

    "Backwards Compatibility
Play thousands of PS one® and PlayStation®2 games as well as your CDs and DVDs on the PLAYSTATION®3.

    NOTE
Some PlayStation 2 or PlayStation format software titles may perform differently on this system than they do on PlayStation 2 or PlayStation systems, or may not perform properly on this system. PS3 does not support a vibration controller."

It really doesn't matter does it? I mean honestly... ps2 games are great and all... but I'm assuming you bought the ps3 for a reason? To play better games that are better quality... anything is going to look like crap compared to the ps3 games anyway... and the difference between the pixels in the ps3 render and the ps2 render aren't significantly huge... but somewhat noticeable... in my opinion it makes no difference

Sorry, what Grayfox? Graphics certainly are nice but they are far from everything. One of the best games I have ever played has ASCII graphics. Many of the old games with poor graphics are just outstanding games. It's sad that you don't appreciate that.

The reason that some PS2 and PSone games won't work is because the PS3 uses an emulator, that means that it simulates the console entirely on the processor. This is a bigger drain as the specialised graphics components are not used. The emulation is often far from perfect.

There seems to be much less of an issue with backwards compatibility on the Wii, I wonder if the Wii's hardware is similar enough to the gamecube that some hardware aspects can be used? Intruiging.

Backwards compatibility does seem to be a key advantage to the wii. For instance, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out in dec. and one of the controller options is being able to use a gamecube controller.

Well seeing as the wii does have ports for the gamecube controlers, if gamers are more comfortable why not, WOOOOOO EAGERLY ANTICIPATING SSBB

Worth, all the playstation controllers are exactly the same, you can't say there's no backwards compatibility there, just no innovation :P

I didn't mean to say the PS3 had no backwards compatibility. What I meant to say was the wii having backwards compatibility the way it does is better than the wii without it. Sorry to mislead you.
