    Why won't certain sites display?
Hi, I am the administrator for our in-house network of about 450 PCs and laptops.
We have installed a server for monitoring and managing access to non-business internet sites. We were having real problems with abuse which was really draining bandwidth and seriously interfering with our ability to conduct business.

Some people are still going to areas which I am unable to view to see if they need to be there for business purposes. For example: us.js2.yimg.com (google images) or msnbcmedia.msn.com or i.l.cnn.net When I try to see what these are, it just gives me error messages. Any advice as to how I can see what they are accessing? Thanks, Hank

What error messages? It sounds like those sites need to be called from other sites.

These are addresses for ad servers and so cannot be accessed directly.
Add a filter to your monitoring server to block ALL adverts and you'll notice a massive increase in available bandwidth.
I had a similar issue, than I blocked ALL adverts and now it's resolved.

Thanks for your helpful response. As a result of your reply I just went into our Symantec (Enterprise Version) Web Security content managing software and can't find what I do to block all ads. (I've only been using it for about 2 weeks - which I guess is obvious) This software has made a huge difference in our bandwidth problems - but I find the software difficult to navigate and have yet to locate a "help" area within the software. Does anyone know how to block Ads when using this software? Also, A lot of the items listed in the reports of content violations end with "DDR Blocked" I've googled DDR Blocked and can find nothing which would define what it means.
    Thanks again, Hank

Scott, Thanks for your help. I've only been using the Symantec Web Security software for about 2 weeks and I guess I have a lot to learn about it, but it has made a major difference in our bandwidth problems.
    Thanks, Hank

I'm a newbie as far as this level of computer admin is concerned. But I've been blocked at work attempting online sites by Content Advisor. I'm told it can be customized to various users.
