    CPA=Certified Public Accountant
    CMA=Certified Manegerial Accountant.
    Both of them require a certain amount of course work and working experience.
    If you want to become one then u need to study hard ans work hard. Period.
    Good luck

    I don't know what is required for a Chartered Accountant. However, I am an accountant in California, U.S. and can tell you that most of your math work will involve an adding machine. So if you are worried that you cannot sum large numbers in your head, don't... it's not a requirement. What is a requirement is that you possess the following: The ability to easily comprehend accounting concepts, the work practice of ALWAYS double, triple checking your work, understanding accounting controls and how to implement them, and organization. If you are good at these you can do it. If you are not one to pay attention to detail, try another field. Either way, Good Luck to you!

    What is this mysterious "adding machine" of which you speak?

    Aaaah, not so mysterious as it sounds. I am insistent on calling it an adding machine, but I believe the technical term is calculator. However, I have always attributed the term "calculator" to the following: 1. a device that fits in your hand, and 2. you start with a positive number by entering the number first, then proceed with your calculation, or by entering the negative sign "-" then entering the number. My so called "adding machine" (an old school term) does not fit easily in the hand as it is the size of about three of my hands, and you input the number first, then determine whether it is a positive or negative number.

    When you say adding machine, I think of this.

    Yes, you are correct. My so called "adding machine" can multiply. It is, in fact, a calculator! But I will still call it an adding machine... because I can!! :p
