Remove icons from new user desktop
I am setting up my computer for my brother and sister, I have programs I don't want them to use. Some default icons have appeared on the new desktops and I can't figure out how to get rid of them. I logged on as them and tried to delete them, and was told I didn't have permission. I tried going to c:\documents and settings\sam\desktop and the folder is empty.

I have some programs that could screw up my computer if used by a 9 year old with limeted knowledge? Repartition doesn't mean anything to him, he would probably think ist a game and he's waiting for it to load

Do you want to delete the programs, or just the shortcuts from the desktop?

Just right click on the icon. A menu will pop up, just click "Delete"

    Have you tried that?

Yes I have, and under the limeted account I don't have permission and under the admin it isn't there

I believe they're the default icons, but they have shortcuts to programs I have installed

Can you make the folder that the programs are in a hidden folder?

Mabye if I change the account to admin and delete the programs they will stay deleted.

Making the folder hidden doesn't help none

That will probably work. You can't do anything with a limited account.

Well all I can really tell you is it would probably work to make it an Admin account. I know that with a limited account you can't do anything as far as deleting files and stuff like that.

Sorry I can't help you more. I just tried because there is barely anyone online to help you :)

What you need to do is setup user accounts for each user. Under the Documents and Settings folder will be several folders, two of them All Users and Default Users. Any icons for programs you want shared should go in the All or Default users desktops. Any icons that you want restricted to specific users will go in their personal desktops. Just cut and paste the icons as needed.

There is a folder that is located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop, and any shortcuts or files in that folder are on everyone's desktop... try emptying that folder, but be warned it will delete it on your desktop, also.
