That is a debit card that you get from your bank

The only thing id add is that debit cards may not take that long to post, with many transactions occurring almost instantly in some cases.

If I buy gas as the local gas station at the pump, sometimes it takes a couple of days to post. If I buy a soda inside the store, it often debits immediately.

So... I do agree it sounds like you are talking about a debit card that is used in conjunction with a bank account, allowing you to not use checks for many purchases... just don't count on it being a 3 day delay, even though it sometimes might be.

It can delay up to 3 days in the US? But yes your talking about a debit card, in Canada all debit card transactions are instant as the system is country wide and has been in use since 1984, being one of, if not the first, country to install such a system.

most debit in the us are, in my experience, mostly instant. But I've noticed mostly on gas and on restaurants that sometimes its longer. I assume with dining its sometimes delayed with the tip... I've seen immediate debits of different value than the actual amount for a day or so... so it might take a day or two before they are correctly posted. And with gas, sometimes there is a "hold" fee temporarily attached until it clears... sometimes over 100 cash... so you might only want to buy $20 in gas, but need to have $120 or more in the bank to cover the temp fee. Pain in the arse sometimes.

and even then, I've seen gas charges take from 1 to 3 days to correctly clear.

so yes... while some are instant, some take a few days to correctly process.
