How will I know when my period comes?
I don't know when I'm supposed to get my period. I know when my mom got hers, but I keep thinking that I might get it, and then it turns out I haven't. How will I know?

How old are you so I can answer this better? Also, have you ever had a period or will this be your first one?

How old are you? Some get it early and some get it late - 11-15 on average. It may begin with what feels like a tummy ache. Once it starts it won't be very regular so don't worry. It will settle down over the next couple of years.
Keep in mind that everyone is different and so are our periods. The important thing is to take care of yourself and don't worry too much. And talk to your mum.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up, now I can help just a little better.

Now, you may not know when your period is coming until it comes and the bleeding starts. Many first periods have no symptoms whatsoever.

Your mother's age at her first period is an indication, but not an absolute. One thing that is being studied is that girls usually start right about the time they reach 100 pounds. Don't know why, but that is the consensus in the medical community.

So, to easily answer your question, you probably won't know ahead of time when you will get it until the bleeding starts. Just be open with your Mom, make sure you have some pads already in the house for when the time comes.
