    China plate with "Germany 82"
I have a china plate (saucer sized, but w/out indentation where teacup would go, so maybe a small luncheon plate?) that is white with gold trim around the edges and a ring of pink roses. On the bottom, there is a pink marking (stamped on, not a label or impression in the china) that says "GERMANY 82." I believe it is from the early 1900's but am not sure on this.

Does anyone know anything about this kind of plate or the marking? I did an internet search, but couldn't come up with anything.

I too, did a search on the Internet in order to try to find an answer for you. I didn't come up with anything. I would think that your best bet would be to take it to an antique store that has a lot of china for sale and see what they think. Maybe someone on this site will have an answer for you, though.

I found out some information about this marking, in case anyone else is looking for similar information:

The mark means that the plate is from prior to 1891, and the stamp was applied later to comply with the Mc Kinley Tariff Act of 1891 (which I believe was replaced with a different act in 1894, so the stamp was applied between 1891 and 1894). Under this act, imports to the US were required to be stamped with the country of origin, so this plate must have originated in Germany. Not sure what the 82 means, however. So the mark refers to the tariff act and does not provide any info about the company that made the plate.
