    New Home 400 amp service
I brought in 400 amp to my outside meter for my new log home.

I had planned to split off 200 to the house and 200 to a future shop.

However I don't think 200 will be enough from time to time. One expert I asked said I would be running at 600 AMP requirement. I think he is nuts. The main thing I have is radiant heat, not a lot of other luxuries including no air conditioning. It is a log house, full basement of 2307 sq ft, main floor 2307 sq ft, and loft 1400. Main and basement have radiant. Electric not propane since my electric is cheaper than propane in the area.

What is your take about me taking 300 or 400 to the house, for 'just in case', and still take 200 to the future shop since most ot the usage will be sporadic and I do not feel that there would be high usage in both areas at once. (Until the shop is done the basement is a shop with lots of power tools.)

Can you tell me the wattage or kilowatt rating of the electric heat?

I am embarrassed to say but the radiant heat 'boiler' isn't completed being spec'd yet. So I can not say for sure.

(BTW - also have wood stove heat as supplement)

I will not be able to size the service until the load of electric heat is known. As you can see, everyone is guessing up to now.

Once I get the load of electric heat, I will assume:
    Electric range
    Electric dryer
What size load is the water heater?
    No air conditioning.
    Hot tub or spa?
Can the basement be finished to be livable space,
Is the workshop a hobby, one tool at a time?
