There are many causes of dark discolorations on the face or body. The dark patches on your cheeks can result from melasma due to pregnancy, skin conditions or increased melanin. You should always use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. As for the discolorations on your cheeks, there are over-the-counter treatments that can help lighten them, such as creams containing hydroquinone or kojic acid. Home microdermabrasion kits and chemical peels can also help lighten discolorations. Please be sure to follow the instructions on the products as recommended.

If you don't see any improvement from the over-the-counter treatments, see a dermatologist. He/she will give you a prescription cream to fade the discolorations.

I have melasma on the forehead and nose after my second pregnancy. It gets worse in summer (probably due to the sun exposure). However, I’m not very concerned about this and I’m not in search for the cure at present time.

I read several good reviews of Meladerm for hyperpigmented skin. I personally never used this product, so can’t share my experience, but here are some opinions about it.
