Can a Vitamin C supplement replace eating fruit?
I don't eat much fruit (okay, lets face it, I don't eat fruit) but I take a 500mg supplement a day in Vitamin C. Will this help where I don't eat fruit? I have always heard an apple a day keeps the doctor away and have heard Vitamin C will help fight cancer.

The highest concentration of vitamin C are in fresh, raw foods. Vitamin C is water soluble and the least stable of vitamins. Cooking can destroy much of vitamin C content in food, so steaming is best. Pills are not as effective as the real thing. How about 100% Fruit juice, or dried fruit, or products like V-8. All vitamins help, to a certain extent, but the real product is best!

No, a vitamin C cannot replace the natural vitamin C you find in food. It can aid but is not designed to replace proper nutrition. If you do not eat fruit, can you at least drink juice?

With only tablets, you will miss out on getting the fiber and other nutrients. Maybe you have another source?

(How can anyone not eat at least SOME fruits -- bananas, watermelons, navel oranges, apples.) If nothing else, cut them into wedges and chunks and eat them with something you like -- apple wedges dipped in caramel sauce, etc.
