For a nominal 120 volt system, 118 volts is fine. Which side of the connection is hot?

The webpage for this product explains that halogen lamps get hot and to keep each lamp 8 " away from other objects.

Wire conducts heat just as well as electricity. If the connection is not loose causing the heat due to a poor connection, perhaps the heat is from one of the lamps.
