Can't get the job I want with a Felony!
I have a class 5 felony in Colorado, Inciting a Riot, on my record. Nothing prior and nothing afterward. Now I want to become a firefighter, but nobody will give me a chance to even interview after they see that I have this felony. What can I do to get rid of it??

You can try and get it expunged from your record after 7 or 8 years from the court where you were convicted. But I will be honest, today after 911,
Even explunged things show up for police, and any job that requires a national security clearance. ** many firedepartments have to get this clearance.

So it is very possible that even if you go to the time and trouble of getting it explunged, it would still show up for the fire departments background check.

I know as a fact on your NCIC background check, the ones police run, even explunged records still show up, but are restricted just for police or national security checks.

    Hello vaughn:

The Padre is right. I think every fire department will be able to see through an expungement.

So, if firefighting is your goal, it seems to me that your only avenue is a pardon. With a pardon, when asked if you've been convicted of a felony, you may legally say NO.

You're going to need a lawyer in order to get one, though. But, who said things you want in life are cheap?
