    Dating a minor!
OK. I live in Indiana and I have been dating a guy for about a year now and he is (25 yr old). I am now 8 mo. From turning 18 and my parents REALLY don't want me to be around him anymore. They have sabotaged our relationship and have threatened to call the cops.
My mom said if he ever comes near me again she will put him in jail. Is there anything they can do about this?! Is there any law he is breaking! Because I consented and the age of concent is 16 in Indiana. We have had sex but there is nothing else, he doesn't take me across state lines or anything. And can I still see him without consequence? Because right now my mom has locked me up in the house and taken my credit cards, drivers license, internet (have to use free Starbucks... ), threw my cell phone in a lake, and also forced me to quit my job. She hired a lawyer to ask if she can beat me for being rebellious. But she is insane about punishment and likes to take it too far. I need to no the answer so that I can get more freedom or hopefully be able to go back to seeing this guy...
 I really need help! Is he committing a crime? Like corruption of a minor, or statitory rape? Or anything? Because my mom said she called the police and they said that he could go to jail, but she is probably lying because she lies to me a lot to get her way  thank you...

    Hello Minor:

IF the age of consent is 16 in your state, then he is NOT breaking the law.

If I'm not mistaken the consented age means with your parent's consent. Obviously they're not consenting to this relationship, so they probably can have him put in jail. I want to give you some advice though... I was 16 dating a 24 yr old, and I definitely didn't know as much then as I do now. Older guys (especially when they date minors) can have issues like control and things like that. I found out later that he had been cheating on me. Just be careful. Us your head not your heart. Good luck with this!

The LEGAL age of consent in Indiana is 16. Period. Parents can't just assign their own age of consent.

Now, I agree that he may have some control issues and this may be why he is dating you. Younger girls are easier to manipulate.

If mom is fighting this hard to keep you two apart, I hope you will at least think about why she is doing it. Most likely she is trying to protect you.

Have you tried talking to other family members whom you both respect to see if they can try to negotiate a truce?

He does have some issues with wanting his way, but we are ALWAYS able to compromise and he does not cheat and I Know that for a fact. I just need to know that there is NOTHING parents can do. I cannot have this guy sent to jail... just because I would never ruin someone's life like that.

So there is NO CHANCE we can get in trouble if we hand out (accept with parents of course... )

My mom also makes false accusations that he is taking picts for child porn and it is not true... will I just get into a big legal mess if I continue this? With my mom lying and really REALLY trying hard to sabotage this...

If you are under 18 and he is taking sexually explicit pictures of you, I believe that he can be accused of creating child porn. And with the internet now, I would be wary of assuming that they aren't on line if he has taken them digitally.

I'm also dating someone with a 10 years difference... but from what I read online, the age of consent IS 16, however I think it has to be within a 4 years difference. So what I would do is just keep my distance until you turn 18 , then it won't be a big deal because you are legal to make your own decisions. I'm having trouble myself because I LOVE this guy and the ONLY problem we have is his parents going crazy about him hanging out with me. They also make false accusations against me and they assume I am this bad person, and they never even met me. Good luck with everything, and be careful what you say to your mom... because she sounds like she's completely against this. If you love the guy--- AGE SHOULD NOT MATTER!

My wife's sister Maude dated Arthur Scargill in a tempestuous affair in the 1980s. She argued that there was nothing wrong with dating him because he was not actually a miner he was a union leader representing miners, which is slightly different.

If you guys really care for one another you might want to cool it a little bit till your 18 it's only 8 month away! But the legal age is 16 so you can do what you want! I would just be careful because of your mom. And be ready for the consequences of dating this man. My parents and I fought like cats and dogs until they finally realized that I loved him and that we weren't just playing around. After 3 long years we got married and are as happy as can be!

I was 15, and my boyfriend was 25. My mom called the cops, and did everything in her power to get us apart. After sneaking around for so long, my mom knew she could do nothing about it. The age of consent is 17 in NYS where I live, but I was only 15 and the cops told me as long as he's not taking me without my approval, like being kidnapped, then it is my decision. We've been together almost 5 years. I think dating an older man is amazing, I teach him things, and he teaches me things. People who are saying that u dating an older man is bad, have probably never dated one. Who cares what your mom thinks, it is your love life. Usually I agree with the parent, but not this time. Are u guys still together?

Is this the guy who is in jail? If so I question the "amazing" part.

zawatska disagrees: You CLEARLY do not read a whole post. I never said he was in jail.]

And you CLEARLY have violated the rules for posting (agree/disagree is for incorrect advice only) and you CLEARLY don't think anyone is smart enough to read all your posts and put the story together.

You did say your boyfriend was in jail, he will possibly be facing trial and you asked for advice - which I gave you. Rather pleasantly and thoroughly, in fact.

Your post on the other thread tells 2 different stories - he was there or he wasn't there, depending on which post(s) you read. And I didn't even bring that to your attention.

Apparently, judging by your reaction, this is the same boyfriend. Yesterday you posted both that he is out of jail and awaiting trial and that you have been together 5 years. So don't scream at me for asking a question which at the time was just a question - now I've compared notes so I have the answer.

Nooo I said he was in a HOLDING CELL waiting for the judge to come in at 3 in the morning. A holding cell is not jail. Once the judge came in, he got RORed.
