    Collection agency refuse paymnet
I Had a credit card with AMEX and defaulted on it in Dec of 06. I still receive monthly statements but for the last 5mo I have been receiving collection letters too. I called the agency to make an arrangement of 200 today and 100 every mo on a balance of 1014. The agency refused my payment and said I had to pay the full balance I advised them I did not have the full balance. I then was yelled at and told I need to find it and pay by the next day and was hung up on. I then called AMEX and they said I have to talk to the agency about arrangements. Can the collection really refuse may payment?

Send them a payment in the mail. Send it certified make sure your account number is on the check.I am sure they will accept it. The next time they call click in their ear, or just tell them not to contact you at home, work, or at anyone of your familys home number. Tell them they have your address they can contact you that way. But keep making your payments and keep proof.

I worked for a collection agency recently, and in all honesty they have to accept your payments and apply them towards the balance, but they have certain guidelines that they have to follow. Sometimes there are minimums that they can set up, and if you offer to pay less than the minimum they require, then they can't set you up (therefore still leaving the account "unresolved"). I would suggest that you speak with a manager or supervisor the next time that they call you. A lot of times managers can approve a lower amount for a minimum payment. Also don't tell them to quit contacting you as this could result in a bigger action. Don't let them intimidate you. Collectors can be brutal and really tick you off, but just remember to keep your cool and continue to pay what you can. They usually won't take issues any further, they just use mean tactics to get you to pay it off faster. Hope this helps and good luck!
