Can I break a lease due to a family death?
I am living in South Carolina and would like to break my lease. My Grandfather has passed away and I need to take care of my Grandmother (previously done by another family member). This means I need to move in with her, and I also had to quit my job to do this. Which means I can no longer afford the apartment either. Is there anything that I can do about breaking the lease without penalties?

    Hello baiji:

Legally, you may not break your lease for ANY reason. However, unless your landlord is a jerk, he should make a deal with you.
