About 21 days ago I died my hair dark brown (nutmeg) from medium to light brown (toasted almond is the shade of my hair that is listed on the dye shade color). And I really, really liked the color. So when the color began to fade again I was really disappointed (the color wasn't permanent, it was one of those 28 washes dye kits.) so I went back and got the SAME color, SAME kit and now my hair is practically black?

I have three questions one is, since I didn't wait 28 days before the color was all out (I think there was still some color when I died the second time) is my hair permantley that color? Because the color is not fadeing as quckily as it did before! And if it was permanent, will it fade faster than normal permanent hair color kits?

My second question is, how can you fade it without using pwrell shampoo (I cannot buy it because I do not live in America).

And for my final question, when the color does fade a bit (or after 28 days) can I dye it back to my original nautral color without my hair becoming fried? It's in very good condition and I would like for it to stay that way... even if I have basically black hair.

If you did not buy a permanent hair color your hair should not stay the way it is although stranger things have happened. It's possible that since you had some color in your hair already the second box deepened the shade( especially if you were light blond before). Secondly something I have found that works great for lightening your shade of haircolor is to add approx. 1-2teaspoons of baking soda to your own shampoo. You may have to do this several times and really work it in but it has worked for me before. Lastly, if I were you I would continue using the baking soda daily along with conditioner and give your hair a rest, if not you will need to have your hair lightened in order to take the color out of your hair. Hair color will not take hair color out nicely only a lightener will do that. I would suggest going to a professional especially if your hair was very light blond before all this hair color. It may take some time but it should be back to normal.

From your description, it sounds like you've used a semi-permanent color. Most semi-permanent colors will last up to 26 shampoos or longer. Remember that a semi-permanent color can become permanent on permed or already-colored hair, especially if the hair dye is black. Permanent colors are permanent and will not wash out, but it gradually fade over time. You can try to fade the color faster by using dandruff shampoos or dish detergent, but if you don't see any results, you may have to get the color stripped from your hair. In order to go from black to your original color, which is medium/light brown, you will need to pre-lighten you hair and then apply your desired color. I hope this answers all your questions.

Is the baking soda used to lighten natural hair color or just color treated hair color?

Baking soda does not lighten natural or artificial hair color, but it may slightly fade artificial hair color.

What! They should write that on the box. Would pre-lighting your hair do a lot of damage? And also... roughly, what would the cost be fore that to be done?

Thank you to everyone for your help. I guess I lucked in this time because the hair dye has faded and my nautural color is slowly coming back. And also, thank you for the tip about the baking soda... it really did help!
