Yoga and Glaucoma / Avoiding Head Down Postures
I have normal tension glaucoma and have been told to avoid doing things
Like having my head below my heart (i.e. being upside down) for long
Periods (longer than around 5 minutes).

I am possibly interested in taking a yoga class, but have heard that in
This practice, head down or inverted postures are done.

My goals in taking this would be fitness, relaxation, and integrating
    This with spirituality.

In the typical introductory yoga class for beginners, are these inverted
Or head down positions practiced, or is that more for the advanced level?

Although I am sure the teacher would be accepting of my not doing certain
Poses, I cannot see taking a class if I cannot participate fully in everything
The rest of the class is doing.

I will add that I have no visual impairment, and my treatment for this eye problem has so far been successful: and I don't want to do anything that could destabilize things for me.

The logic behind avoiding the head down postures is that blood flows to the
Head, and therefore the eye pressure can increase a great deal.

Can anyone who is very familiar with yoga, comment on this?

    Laurie
