    Puppy lethargic & vomitting
Help. We just adopted a 9 month old chihuaha mix from an animal shelter yesterday. He seemed normal yesterday. Today he refuses food, vomited several times and is listless. He has slept most of the day. He is drinking water and urinating. He has not had a bowel movement since he came home (about 36 hours now). He has an appointment at the vet tomorrow morning. Some reassurance tonight will help me sleep.

We can hope for the best. I am glad you are taking him to the vet. Please let us know how he is.

I always encourage people to adopt from a shelter and hate to see them have trouble.

Hi, This is an update. My 9 month old puppy does have parvo and is currently being treated at the vet (to the tune of $500+++). They think his chances are good because it was caught early, however, being a very small dog is not in his favor. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks.

Contact the shelter immediately where you adopted him from. I would requst help with the bills and to let them know that they may need to do a check on their other animals. Btw I am sorry and good luck to you and your puppy. Post back and let us know how everything goes.

That is just what I was afraid of. I didn't try to reassure you because all too often it is parvo or another problem. I am glad you got him to the vet promptly.

I was afraid it would happen as soon as I read your question. I am glad you had the strength to let us know.

Please before getting another puppy, read what I have copied from an earlier answer.

I would not recommend bringing any puppy into your home in less than 6 months. The parvo virus will still be alive anywhere you didn't clean with a 10:1 bleach solution. There is an extensive discussion about a new puppy after parvo at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/wh...rvo-43195.html Like elsewhere here, you need to sort out the good answers. Even 6 months may not be long enough. No shot program is good enough.
