I would just call him by his name, continue to call him your brother in law to honor a decision to continue to consider him a part of your family, or introduce him as a friend. Continuing to call him your brother in law would be fine since he does have a link to the family.
Calling him your brother-in-law is a sign of resepct to your husband's sister.. Using his first name is also fine and you can explain the relationship later. He is still a part of your family and that is what counts most of all.
