Try janet evanovich "one for the money" there are now 13 books in this series. She is really funny. If you like fantasy, try naomi novik's "temeraire" series (his majesty's dragon is title of book one). Crime stories would be Michael Connelly. A real summer challenge would be to read the entire Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles.

I picked up a book at a conference two weeks ago. Its only available at special signings or Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more, Under the Liberty Oak. It was an excellent read- a mystery on the south Georgia coast, about faith and loyalty and love and keeping promises for forty years. And it had all these flashbacks to the civil rights era.

Read Newbery Winners. Start with Bridge to Terabithia, then read Holes.

Read books by Jodi Picoult. Start with The Pact. Then read Simple Truth. Both have teen girls as the main character.

Lots of flashbacks to memories and regrets in both their lives. Gives you a good insight as to how people turn out the way they do.

Wow, sounds good to me. You should look into some of the ones I listed, like Eden's Atlantis and Daughter of the Forest.

    Ok, so you're a precocious 12 year-old girl.

The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It's the King Arthur tale told from the perspective of women. It's an amazing book that you'll probably cherish for a long time.

Love in the Time of Cholera, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It's Oprah's book club book currently (yuk). Very gushy romantic, but stunningly beautiful writing.

Those are two books that offer far more substance than the stuff you'll find in airport bookstores (Harry Potter etc).

The Nanny Diaries, by Emma McLaughlin
The Lady and the Unicorn, by Tracy Chevalier
