    Arm pain after flying
Hi, everyone I have just had a frantic phone call from my sister who has just travelled back to Melbourne on three flights from Dublin then got delayed by fog and had to stay on the plane at another airport for 5 hours. She is now about to get on another plane to the Gold Coast and is experiencing pain in her upper arm. She is worried it is a DVT but I have never heard of it in your arm, does anybody know if she should be worried or not?

This should most definitely get checked out. Usually DVTs are in the leg, but there could be other reasons for her pain only a doctor can diagnose.

You need to be more descriptive when you say 'pain.' The term is extremely broad.

A deep vein thrombosis of an upper extremity can occur if there is trauma to that arm, if that arm is held immobile for a long time, or if there is a predisposing condition, such as a 'port' or pacemaker or underlying cancer.

Upper arm pain is not specific enough. A heart attack may manifest only as left arm pain.
Of course there are other potential causes- infection, trauma, muscle strain, etc...

I hope your sister gets over this soon.

    Grace and Peace

See a doctor- cardiology for heart attack symptoms, and ask about a possible ultrasound for DVT- all the answers above are great (by the way)!

    She should be checked!
