Not sure what you mean by "completing the square". The equation is simplified to y=-28x-29. Without a second corresponding equation, there is no single solution. If x=1, then y=-57 (-28-29), if x=2, y=-85(-56-29), if x=0, y=-29 (0-29), if x=-1, y=-1 (28-29), etc.

I think there was a typo in the question as asked.

Sharpe, can you clarify the equation?

I'll assume you meant -4x^2 - 24x - 29. Then, to complete the square, factor out the leading constant -4. Then handle the resulting expression in the usual manner. Just remember that the constant you end up adding to complete the square is actually multiplied by -4.

Use the general formula for completing the square.

    Makes it easier.
