It was a good weekend for the drive-by media, the only "positive" story in my paper regarding Republicans was Domenici's call for a change of course in Iraq. Meanwhile, they were sure to tell us about every disaster in Iraq, Giuliani's statement that he wouldn't support a flat tax, and an op-ed by The Goracle's former campaign manager, Donna Brazile, on how the GOP is losing "the all-American financial arms race."
What I particularly liked was the hatchet job on Fred Thompson and the article on "Cheney fatigue." Don't be shocked now, but "Cheney has approval ratings now that are as low as _ or lower _ than the president's."
On Thompson, apparently Nixon thought he was "dumb as hell," and he "comes across as a partisan willing to cooperate with the Nixon White House's effort to discredit the committee's star witness."
Isn't it amazing how the media is taking such pot shots at a guy that's not even in the race yet?
I think GOP strategist - and wife of James Carville - Mary Matalin, got the best quote out of all this though, "As the effectiveness of Bush-bashing winds down as a `vision' for their future, Cheney-bashing is their last breath as a substitute for principles upon which to forge an agenda to lead the country."
I hear she's likely to help out in a Thompson campaign. Think she can handle it?
