    Feeling guilty
My mother in law has left her husband to come and live in the same country that she was bought up in so she can be with her children and grand children she feels very guilty even though she is very happy. Should she feel guilty for doing what she wants to do. She was very miserable in the overseas country. Thanks

How did she end the relationship with her husband? You just said she left him. Are they still married? How long were they married? Was it a happy marriage or one with many bumps along the way? How old is your Mother-in-law?

Soemtimes, even when a decision to move on is made for all the right reasons, there is the guilt of moving on. The second guesses as to whether the time was right, the reasons were legitimate, the feelings towards the other person could have been improved, etc. That is normal!

If you and your wife sit down with your Mother-in-law and discuss her choices and consequences, perhaps she will feel more at ease with her deicision. In time she will see that what she decided was right for her. One can never redo what is done. But one can make the best of what is and what will be. She is with her family now and a new beginning. I do sincerely hope she comes to understand that her guilty feelings will pass.
    Best to her.

Hell no she shouldn't feel guilty. Only if she did it in a way that she didn't tell her husband how she felt.
