When I disassembled the p-trap in the bathroom basin drain, the waste pipe broke, leaving threads in the pop-up pipe. I need to remove the threads to screw in a new waste pipe. I tried to use an awl to pry them out, but no luck. How can I do this? Thanks in advance!

Is it plastic in metal, if so, just like broken PVC connector in electrical box, I use heat gun,
When soft, pull out, no damage to threads.
What are the 2 materials?

The connection is metal to metal. Odd, because it would ordinarily be a slip joint there, not a threadded conction.

Maybe cut with hack saw blade. PB Blaster is a good penetrant, heat.

Not so odd if what you have is the chrome over brass threaded tail piece that threads into the pop up piece.
When that happens to me I take a small sharp chisel and get under the threads and peel them out. Good luck, Tom
