Speedball, you're my kind of guy. Advice to others here re washers backing up was really helpful. (Except for Fred, who suggested it was an infestation of Pipe Demons.) I can use strainers in the shower and kitchen sink, but no doubt my washer spews copious amounts of shredded kleenex, sock holes, blanket fluff, pet hair, etc. At another house the washer hose drained directly into a laundry room tub. We'd rubber band a section of pantyhose to the end and collect the equivalent of half a cat a week. Now all that yutz is going down the pipe, and I'm spending way too much of my bingo money on Liquid Plumr. Any suggestions? Thanks for being here!

Hey, stick with what works for you. If the panty hose worked on the tub, run a generous length down the stand pipe.

It is hard to spin and knit with wet wool. We once kept a Husky for about a month. Soon after he left, I had to pull the stove out. Gone, but not without a trace. Plenty to knit a dog or 2.

Fred is a pathetic case. I suggested on a computer thread to ignore him, giving correct answers criticizing his as little as possible. I have also recommended plumbing as an example of how people should work together here.

I can do that? I guess I thought with the water just going down the skinny pipe that using a filter might strain the pump. Think I'll double-up on the rubber bands, though. Thanks!

I have never done it. I don't know if it will work or not. With the restriction of the smaller pipe, thst is why I suggested a generous length of panty hose. If it doesn't work, post back and somebody will think of something.

The best answers are where somebody has had the same problem, and solved it. That isn't always the case.
