1999 Chevy S-10 Load (Bed) Capacity.
Gross Rear Axle Weight is 2400 lbs but I have no clue what the axle weight is with nothing in it.

Presuming less than perfect shocks/struts, do you think I'm safe to put 1200 lbs of sand in the bed to haul less than 5 miles?

    Thanks!

Sure, you be well under the axle rating.

Personally, I'd make two trips. I think it's 400 lbs. too much.

Thanks. That means 3 trips for me the. I need a total of 1 cu yd of sand, which is about 2400 lbs.

... so you think safe to put 800 lbs in the bed then?

I would feel more comfortable with 600 lbs, but 800 lbs. will likely be okay. It will become apparent how much it can handle, while you are loading it.
