A blood test is the most accurate. You can go to your doctor and get one done. The brownish spots might have been your period. It is actually rare for a woman to have implantation bleeding, but it is possible.
To be sure about pregnancy get a blood test done from your doctor.

Brown spots is not a sign of pregnancy. I think you should wait another week and get another blood test time. Brown spotting is normal before or and after a period.

Some women, but not many, have pinkish spoting a few days after their ovualtion. This is called implantation bleeding. Even though there is a lot of information about implantation bleeding it is rare for women to have it.
If you went to the doctor after your missed period to do a blood test then the test would show if you were pregnant. Blood test are the most acurate way to tell if you are pregnant.
If you want wait a week or two and do another HPT. But I honestly think you might have just missed your period this month, especially since the blood test came up negative.

I am sorry Bekah, but ovulation and implantation are two totally different creatures. You may have some spotting after ovulation, but it would not be implantation bleeding unless there was a fertalized zygote that implants in the uterus.

There is some good info here about implantation bleeding.

    Now, back to the OP.

You sound rather young. I am sure you understand that intercourse, protected or not, runs the risk of pregnancy. There is nothing that is 100% effective except for abstinence.

You may have had the test too early. It is hard to tell. When you take another HPT be sure to take it first thing in the morning with first morning urine. That is when the concentration of pregnancy hormone called hCG is highest. Taking it any other time of the day may cause a false negative.
