    Where did Christianity come from?

Of course Christianity comes from the Hewbrew faith of the Old Testement, so it comes from all around the middle east.

The actual part of Christianity comes directly from Christ and started in Isreal and spread quickly around that area up into Rome within the next 20 years, all though the known world over the next several 100 years.

Originally anyone that converted to be a Christian had to also convert to be Jewish faith also. But that changed in the years after Christ rose from the dead.

In the book of Acts.. it is recorded that in the city of Antioch is where the term Christian originated. It was AFTER the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. During Jesus' ministry there were NO SUCH thing as a Christian. Jesus was a JEW through and through. He didn't TEACH christianity. The Church started after His resurrection and in order to completely understand christianity, one MUST read Paul's epistles.

I didn't really answer your question. I am always amazed when people think Jesus preached Christianity. He didn't. He followed the law, he was a Jewish Rabbi for the love. He made it clear, He was here for the JEW. Of course, he KNEW he was going to die for us all but his MINISTRY was TO the Jew... it is for us all but TO the Jew. In other words, we can learn from Him, be like Him but he was speaking directly to the Jew. Ok.. I'm getting off thread again.

Ok, the answer to your question is.. Israel. On the day of Pentecost when they received the Holy Spirit and then Peter preached. 3,000 were saved that day and they needed to get baptized In Jesus' name because they were all Jews and had been following the Law. However, I don't believe any of them, including Peter had a clue of Christianity. More was revealed in time and then Paul's ministry is where we learn to understand Christianity. Hope that answers your question.

One more thing... I don't know where the information came that you originally had to become a Jew in order to be a Christian. You WILL NOT find that in the WORD!! In fact, getting baptized in Jesus' name pretty much insured that.. you were an outcast in the Jewish world.

I really find this question rather odd and would like to know more about what's behind it. Considering the circumstances behind the birth and death of Jesus Christ are so well known, it boggles the mind that the question would be asked. So I have to think there is something more here.

Jesus Christ was born, lived and died in ancient Israel, which, at the time was under Roman rule. After his crucifixion, many people started following his teachings and looking at him as the son of God. At some point in time (see Tessy's first response), the followers of his teaching became known as Christians and Christianity became a religion. It was then spread throughout the Roman empire.

Does that answer your question or do you need more?

What Fr Chuck says is basically correct the way I read it. There were many who believed that conversion to Judaism was a prerequisite. Paul corrected them in Galatians 3:23-29 around the year 50 .

    Quote:

Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian [pedagagos] until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

The last line is what I do not understand. That isn't true. Originally you became a Christian by getting baptised in Jesus' name. You were then a outcast in the Jewish community by owning the name of Christ. Saul who became Paul was KILLING Christians and stood by and watched while Stephen was Stoned for preaching Christ. The Jews disowned anyone owning His Name.

Now, Christianity wasn't even understood by the 12 in the beginning and then after Paul's conversion Christ revealed more. It is true that Paul had to straighten out many for going back to Judaism, including Peter. But NO NO NO... The Bible is clear about how Christianity began and where it originated and IT NEVER states ever to become a Jew first. I do not think Fr-Chuck answer is correct at all. ( sorry Fr_chuck)

I'm going to drive my point home a little further... If the Apostle Paul were asked today how and where Christianity got started... if he would say... Well Originally you had to convert to Judism and then become a Christian, then I will eat crow. But he wouldn't have said that... (sorry Fr_chuck_)

OK Dude( I think you are a dude, but then I think everyone is a dude), here is the thing, Judaizer does not equal Christianity. I admitted that when the church first formed they were steeped into the law and they struggled with the Law... and frankly we have that today. Look at the 7th day adventist and so many more denominations. I admit fully that the 12 didn't get it. Paul had to straighten them out!! He was constantly trying to get people to live in Grace. Galatians is a PERFECT example. However to state that you had to become a Jew in order to be a Christian, IS NOT how you became a Christian! It isn't in the Word, Paul is constantly rebuking them for it. ORIGINALLY to become a Christian, you did it the same way as you do today. Because some didn't fully understand is not the issue. I suppose THIS IS WHAT I TAKE ISSUE WITH, As a BELIEVER, I would NEVER EVER say that... period. If I had to convert to Judaism (originally).. well then I'd have to today. And I maintain that if Paul were asked the same question, he would say the same. He may say SOME were confused and needed to be straighten out, but he'd NEVER say that was part of Christianity. Christianity begins today, the same way as it did back then.

Do you feel me? Or am I just being hard to get along with?

Christianity arose from the teachings of Jesus in Palistine, at a time when Palistine was aRoman provence. Christians were first called Christians in Antioch a city in ancient Turkey. Nationality has no meaning in Christianity as it is a universal religion holding all men equal before God

Actually sorry Tessy, but it is in the bible, Now a lot of fundalmentalist churches seem to skip a lot of this but Paul had to come to Peter and the other Apostles to basically get permission and explain to them that he was starting churches in non Jewish areas,

This is just a known fact learned in every seminary, I don't think any group disagrees with it.

    Now Fr_Chuck, or Rev Dude,

I disagree. You stated in another post that Peter DEMANDED that all that wanted to become a Christain had to become Jewish. (my thread on Tolerance). No way. I admitted that Peter didn't get it.. PAUL had to straighten him out. You are NOT getting this info from the Bible. Something else... but not the Bible. I've read Acts... it ain't in there... I've read I and II Peter.. not there. I've Read Paul's epistles... nope, not in there. PLease give me the verse and book... FR, Rev, dude..
