Broken exhaust valve in 14.5 Briggs and Stratton
Exhaust valve broke on my murray. Nothing appears to be harmed, only one little ding in top of head where it hit. Can I just replace it with a new one or will it have to be lapped in at a machine shop to work right. Also, what are the valve clearance settings on a Briggs 14.5 with overhead valves.

    Hello.

You have to lapp the valve but you can do it by hand so it seats. Be sure to install the spring and test the seat by using a thin oil or I use spray carb cleaner to make sure there is no leakage past the valve seat.

If its got the stock Cam your clearance is .008

    Good luck
