I use Frontline from the vet for my adult cats, there is a junior version. Give your local vet a call for advice.
Yes I have heard of the dawn dish liquid method. However I have also heard of ivory. I have used the ivory, because it is more gentle. The dawn is used for oil spills and I think it may wash away some of the kittens natural oil. Get a flea comb and get some soap start at the kittens head first and lather up first(the fleas will run down to the body. I then dunk the kittens up to their throat in the water, and hold them for a minute, to let the fleas drown. Then I soap up the rest of the body. Make sure you do not get it in the eyes. You can comb the kitten while you have it soapy and wet. I think it is easier to get the fleas this way. I do this in the bathroom with a space heater running, but if it is a real warm day , I would say 85 or so then It would be OK, not to use a heater. Just make sure to keep it warm. The vet can give you a product that repels both fleas and worms. It would be wise to give them a call. Ask the pet about spay/neuter . Also, the kitten could use a few shots to ensure that it does not get fatal diseases. Mention that it is a rescued cat. You may get a discount. Thanks for doing the kitty a favor. You have just made a friend for life.
