Hi Everyone! We just finished building our new home and didn't think about thermostats along the way. There is a simple digital thermostat installed at this time but we wanted a programmable one. I attempted to install it today but the compressor wouldn't cut on. I've installed thermostats before but this one is a little different because the wires don't match up.

Anyway, my current configuration is 6 wires.

White connected to W
Orange to O
Green to G
Red to R
Blue to C
Yellow to C

The new thermostat has the following connections. How should I hook it up? We have one unit for downstairs and one for upstairs so I purchased the one for 1 heat/ 1 cool since we only want a programmable one for this area.

This is how it's labeled on the back.

W O/B
Y Y
G G
C C

It doesn't seem that difficult. I hooked up the Y to Y, G to G, B to C, R to RC. That leaves the white and orange wire. I tried it three ways. Connecting W to W O/B, O to O/B and OW to O/B. It felt like the heat was one, never got cool air.

First how many heating and A/C systems do you have in total?

What is the original thermostats brand and model number?

Are these systems gas furnaces? Heat pumps? Electric furnaces?

I need all this info to make sure you have the correct thermostat for your application.

Honeywell VisionPRO 8000 can be wired in many different ways for many different systems.

Sorry for the confusion.

There are two units for our home.

I do not have the original brand and model because it's labeled with the HVAC companies information. The configuration is listed above.

This is a heat pump.

If it is a heat pump you have 2 stages of heat. Wire it according to the detailed instructions included with the new honeywell thermostat.

Remember some installers do not use the correct color code when wiring the original thermostat. I would sound out each wire from the thermostat to the unit and then to the outside heat pump. It is the only way to be sure of a correct hook up and no damage.

Since I am not there I cannot sound out the wires for you but make sure you do this before any problems start.

Okay, I didn't realize there were two stages of heat. I thought since I had to separate units with two units that meant one head and one cool for each unit :confused:

I purchased the TH8110U1003 that is for one heat/cool so I guess it's the wrong one.

Hopefully the vendor will issue and RMA and I can swap it out for a the 8320/8321 since it is 2H/1C.

Two stage means that each system has electric resistance heat along with a heat pump.
