I am planning on dying my hair from dark blond (level 7) to black (level 1). My friend is telling me that I should pull all color out of my hair before dying it black so that I do not get unwanted colors in it. However, I have very fine hair and I am worried about the amount of damage that pulling the color out of it, then dying it, will have upon my hair.

My sister dyed her hair black without bleaching it first. It is now a combination of blue, green, gray, brown, and blond. She had her hair dyed brown and highlighted blond previous to dying it black. I will do anything to avoid this, as it has only been a few weeks since she dyed her hair. I do not have the money to dye my hair every few weeks, not to mention that it would destroy my hair, if I were to do so.

Also, I am not willing to have my hair professionally dyed, as I can not afford that at this time. If anyone could recommend a good dye, it would be much appreciated. I already am planning on using Loreal's Quick Blue bleaching powder, if I do decide to bleach it. If anyone has used this, I'd love to know about your experience with it.

Another worry of mine is that my scalp was recently sunburned to the point of where it was peeling. I am pretty sure it has healed in the few days since then, but would it be a bad idea to bleach/dye my hair directly after it healing?

Any help offered would be wonderful. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Oh my goodness...
Please do not bleach your hair first. If you are going darker, you never ever ever need to bleach first. If you do so, you will end up with seriously damaged, unpleasantly colored hair.

Because you are beginning with dark blonde, you only need a deposit only color. Permanent color is absolutely unnecessary, especially if you are going to a level 1 or 2. Deposit only colors are much gentler on the hair and scalp.

I have achieved beautiful results with a demi-permanent, such as Clairol Complements or Clairol Radiance Colorgloss. The results are even, not inky, and very shiny. Also keep in mind that the result is often darker than the chosen color. You could probably select a dark brown and achieve a lovely black result.

Make sure your scalp is completely healed prior to dying. And again. DO NOT use bleach. DO NOT use permanent color!

Also: your sister's hair probably turned all kinds of funky colors due to the dyed brown/highlighting she had done previously. This created areas where some hair was extra porous, some was not, leading to uneven results. Plus, if your hair is lightened to an extreme degree, it will not properly "take" color without filling it first (replacing a base color for the new color to grab onto).

I had bleached blonde hair and the first time I dyed it darker it simply faded away. I just kept dying darker colors using semi-permanent dye and it eventually just began to take. I now have black hair without using anything harsh, simply repeating the semi-permanent hair color. It took about 6 months.

If you want to go from blonde to black, make sure you look for the right base color. A lot of people end up with green or gray tones in their when they try to go darker. If your hair has yellow tones in it, and you use a blue base color, it will turn your hair green. Using a violet base color will neutralize the yellow tones in your hair without turning it an unpleasant color. But if your hair has brownish tones, you can apply your selected hair color.

Is it OK to use a permanent hair color with a violet base. I'm trying to go from A bleached Blonde to Black.

My advice is don't do it so drastically.. to get your hair to pull up to the color you want, you need to go slow.. start off going light brown.. then move to light blonde.. because you hair can only pull up SO much when doing it with a highlighting/dying kit.. that's why your sisters hair turn all sorts of colors.. bc we have undertones in our hair.. and whatever undertone you have, you will pull up.. if you don't take the time to do it slowly..
For instince I have golden undertones in my hair. I tried to highlight my hair a light light blonde.[on my own] and the part of my hair that was my natural color turned orange!! Because I didn't process it bit by bit, therefore it didn't lighten up to the shade that I wanted.. needless to say I had to go pay $65.00 to get it fixed!! :)

Sweetie, when you bleached your hair, it took out all the pigments, including the red tones. If use a dark or black color over bleached blonde hair, it could result in a green cast. To go from blonde to black, you would have to do a two step coloring process. You will need to use a reddish brown first color and then apply your desired color. Good luck.

OK my hair is bleached and I want to go black...
When I apply the reddish brown first than the black.. can they both be permanent, and do I need to dry my hair after I apply the red.. than do the black??

I think you will be fine.
You don't have to bleach your hair.
Your sisters hair did that because of the colors she had in it.
I always use Loreal to color my hair.
What shade of black are you looking for?
Be careful with black though because it is hard to get out.

If you apply black hair dye over blonde hair, it could result in a green cast or an unpleasant shade.

Yes, you can use permanent colors. Apply the hair color mixture to dry hair. Be sure to apply the color evenly on your hair. Good luck.

Question: I have highlighted hair.. (It's a chestnut brown with blonde highlights.) I colored it this way maybe 7 months ago and the blonde has since faded.. If I were to dye it black would the highlights mess it up?

I dyed my hair black using beijeng dye and now I want to bleach it so I can get a lighter color but I'm scared it may turn green or blue... what should I do?

What will happen if my hair is bleached and I use permanent color to go dark? What type of process should I use to get my hair dark brown? Thanks for any help!
