    Reporting Sexual Molestation Law
Hello. I would like to know if any of you know what is the limit on reporting sexual molestation? I was sexually molested by two close people when I was a child, it's been around 10 years since, but I haven't disclosed about it. I never told anyone, but would like to know if I can still convict the people who did it, now, especially knowing that one of those people still has the potential of recomitting it with another child?? Does the law vary in each state about that??

The law varies by state. But report it anyway, it needs to be out in the open.

Call your police department, victims abuse group or court house. I think it is 5 years after you turn 18. But am not positive.

The statue of limitations varies by state. It also varies according to when you "remembered" said abuse. I suppose for people who do not remember the abuse from day one. There is definitely a time limit for criminal prosecution however if the abuser is a potential danger to children there is NO time limit to notify child welfare. I would say it is your duty to protect potential victims. Hope this helps. Good luck. And consider getting counseling or help in dealing with both the abuse and the potential loss of "justice" in your situation.

One of the people who did it I strongly believe it still has the potential to do it again if it hasn't already. The other one I'm don't think so. What is most important to me is to get the truth out there, especially for my own family since they still don't know. But if I could prosecute at least the one who might still do it, it would be very good. If not, then at least people would know.
The thing is that I don't know how to tell them. It's hard. But definitely thanks for your advice.

    Hello Meterre:

You can't decide now which one you want to punish. If you report it, you have to tell the truth, or just forget it.
