    Diamond Expert?
Ok.. I really want to know about how much money my engagement ring costs. I don't know how much diamond rings cost, or much about them at all, haha... so I was wondering if anyone would be albe to help.

It's a platinum gold band and it holds 7 big, beautiful diamonds. Each diamond is 1/3 carat, so in all my ring has 2 1/3 carat's. .

Any guess is better than mine, well.. an educated guess would be really helpful! I just want to know a rough estimate. Is that bad ;) Thanks for any help!

Are you only marrying this guy because he has money?

Because that is one possible reason you want to know how much it costs.

Perhaps you will say, no, I love this guy, I am just curious. So, if that is the case, then why not just ask him how much he paid for it?

Or you can take it to a jewelry shop to get it appraised.

They will give you two numbers. First, what they will pay for and it second, what they will sell it for. And from my recent experiences, those numbers will be vastly different. I didn't have rings appraised, but other jewelry.

Come on, now that was a pretty ridiculous thing to say without even knowing me. 1st of all, HE didn't even buy the ring. 2nd of all, even if it came from a 25 cent machine I would LOVE it. And 3rd, I am just a 20 year old girl who knows nothing about diamonds and wanted an opinion on cost -- not whether I'm a gold digger or not.. why on earth would you assume that I am all about money based on what I wrote? Isn't this site is supposed to be here to help answer honest questions?
I appreciate your help, but maybe next time someone will actually take your advice if you don't assume bad things about them first. Maybe it's wrong for me to get so defensive, but it was frustrating for me to open up an answer hoping to read something that would be of big help -- not to see someone questioning my personal morals..

The clarity and color of the diamonds will play a huge roll. There is no easy way to answer your question without actually examining the diamonds... A 1/2 carat diamond with pristine clarity and color could be more than a 1 carat with bad clarity and color... and now a days with yellow and pink diamonds all the rage, even that could change.

    Thanks, that makes sense.

I am posting your PM here because it can help others... I don't typically like answering questions via PM because no one else can benefit from the information...

Generally, yes it can be expensive, depending on your idea of expensive... to me and my budget, 500 dollars is expensive.. LOL.. but if the clarity is good and the color is decent, and of course, the shape and cut of the stone, these can fetch a price.
