    visitation rights
1)My dad wants visitation rights and all after 12 years and I was wondering how long it takes before I get to meet him. He got an attorney about 2 weeks ago. My mom still needs to make sure I'm okay with everything and blah blah blah but roughly when should I meet him?

If he just started paying off his child support (he owes 70,000) 500 dollars every two weeks. Does this affect the process?

If you want to meet your father then do so, but make your first visit a public one. Go to lunch or dinner, somewhere where there is lots of people. The state I live in (FL) says that the primary custodial parent (your mom) can not refuse visitation even if the secondary parent (your dad) is in arrears, even 70,000 dollars.

His lawyer sent this paper that said my mom(primary) has to be there and it has to be at our house. Otherwise we have to follow the county guidelines it was sooooo confusing!

HA! Your mother does not have to allow him into her home, there is no court in the world that is going to force that! Yes, it has to be supervised but I don't think his attorney has any right (that's up to the courts) to tell who has to be there. Your mother can opt to be there or have a court appointed person or a third party go with you. There are to many case's where mother and father can't be left alone in the same room due to ill feelings. Your mother should see about hiring an attorney of her own, to make sure that all things are fair for you. Remember you are at an age where you opinion matters (obviously your at least 12), and your mother should respect that. Getting an attorney would insure a level of safety for all parties involved.

    Just an opinion though.
