    Number and letter games
OK, here goes I need answers to the following questions. I am told they are logic questions but I don't get them. Here they are#1
What is the next number in the series? 10,20,11,19,12 -

#2 again what is the next number in the series? 2,8,12,20,36 -

#3what is the next letter in the series? B,E,I,N -

#4 which group does not belong? A)cdeb B)qrsp C)wxyv D)bcfa. Ok here are a few word questions I need help with: square is to circle as cube is to -
    A)ice B)pyramid C)ball D)oval? Luke warm is to hot as not so good is to A)poor B)fair C)average D)not to bad? W is to 4 as C is to A)2 B)24 C)3 D)26? A (small a) is to D (capital D) as -
    Is to V (capital V) A)S B)R C)s D)q? SOS is to help as dove is to A)soap B)peace C)danger D)flight? Ok that's it please help!

    Ok, here we go :)

#1 - 18 (they go from 10 to 20 to 11 to 19 to 12 so the pattern is add one subtract one hince the 10 to 11 and 20 to 19)

    #2 I couldn't figure out this one

    #3 - T ( B = 2nd letter E = 5th I = 9th N = 14th, they add 1 between the spaces of letters b - e = 3 spaces e - I = 4 I - n = 5)

#4-1 D)bcfa doesn't belong (the letters are all beside each other except for bcfa)

#4-2 C)Ball (square and circle are the same as cube and ball just that one is 3D and one is 2D)

#4-3 A)Poor (it goes from sort of, luck warm, to major, hot, so not so good to poor)

    #4-4 B)24 (it is counting starting from Z so W = 4th letter and C = 24th)

#4-5 C)s (2 letters in between the small and Cap letter Starting with cap V have 2 in between the small and cap, we are going backwards to keep it the same as a to D so its s)

#4-6 B)peace (this one was tricky because dove is also soap BUT SOS is a symble of help so dove is a symble of peace)

    #2 is 44

How did you get that one?

    I think I lied, actually.

    44 would have been 11x4. I was thinking it was a progression of primes, but 4x7 =28, and 9 isn't a prime.

I can SEE the progression, there, though, and I think it's 58 that comes next. I just can't explain WHY that progression works. Give me a few minutes and I'll work out the formula.

Ok, I found an answer although it may not be the right answer to #2

    #2 - 50 (I did 2 + 18 = 20 which is the 4th # then I did 8 + 28 = 36 which is the 5th # then I did 12 + 38 = 50 which is the missing #)

First, thank you so very much although it may not seem like it I'm a college grad and no this is not homework! :) it is a test for a job its called "logic questions" and by the way its multiple choice so I know number two is not 44 the options are A)42 B)51 C)68 D)79. Thank you again for your help and thanks for taking the time to explain the answers. If anyone knows number 2 that would really help. Thanks.

Lol well it looks like my answer to #2 is wrong also but it is a possible answer to it :D I found an alternate answer YAY! Lol

    It's 68.

I have no idea how the 2 works in there, but 8+4=12, 12+8 =20, 20+16 =36, 36+32 = 68 (yeah, yeah... my adding apparently sucks, which is why 58 came up first)

    It's a progression of the inchworm song--2+2 are 4, 4 and 4 are 8, 8 and 8 are 16, 16 and 16 are 32---plus the previous number.

Yeah I thought of that one too but that 2 threw me off so I dismissed it GJ to all of us I suppose :D that was fun I haven't done those things in a long time

The answer to #2 is 68. It's a progression of doubles, added to the number before it.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! To both of you!
I sent that response (asking for the correct answer) before reading your answers. I was using my blackberry and its not very reliable and now I'm on my PC so I can actually read your answers and I see the effort that went into answering my questions, and because its for a job (its to test your logic and apparently patience) I was desperate! I copied the test on paper 100 questions by hand and then told the front desk girl that I had a emergency and unfortunately only had time to fill out the application and I would come back for the test so I took it home and these were the only questions I couldn't get. So seriously thank you again so much! :)

The answer to two is 68.

Each time you look at the total and add up the total minus 4.
    E;g. 8 minus 4 is 4 so 8+4=12
    12 minus 4 is 8 so 12+8 = 20
    20 minus 4 is 16 so 20+16=36
    36 minus 4= 32 so 36+32=68

You have to look at the two parts of each sum: if you take the heighest minus the lowest always means 4
    8(=6+2) so 6-2=4
    12 (=8+4) so 8-4=4
    20(=12+8) so 12-8=4
    36(=20+16) so 20-16=4
    68(=36+32) so 36-32=4

I'm just wondering how you get from 2 to 8

Actually I'm not wondering about 2 to 8 anymore as the second part opf my explanation answers that.
